You may never have a cargo this heavy, but if you ever do, we can custom-design and custom-build a crate for it. The 70-foot, 99,000-pound cruise ship propeller shaft shown above is the largest load we’ve ever crated (so far). When it arrived in Port Everglade from Denmark, its crate had been damaged in shipping. So had the shaft itself. Working on-site in Port Everglade, we repaired the crate’s damage and reinforced the whole crate itself. As a result, the shaft made it safely across the Atlantic and back to Denmark for repairs.
Another heavyweight project was the 23,000-pound, 35-foot crankshaft shown at right. Though shorter and lighter than the propeller shaft, it posed its own set of challenges. With cranks offset at different angles, it was neither as straight as the propeller shaft, nor as symmetrical. When we custom-designed its ultra-heavy-duty crate, we had to make special provision for its weight distribution, balance, and center of gravity, then block and band the shaft to keep it in place.
Up on a fork lift, the crate stayed flat, square, true and silent – which made our customer very happy.
